One of the basic principles of mediation is that the parties involved are themselves experts of the conflict they are experiencing. The goal of mediation is to restore the relationship between the parties, and to help them find a shared and lasting solution to the conflict. The aim of the process is to support peaceful, comfortable and safe living communities.
Mediation between two (or more) parties can be utilised when the parties involved are known, and there is some form of a dispute between them. The dispute could for example be a result of a situation that did not go well between the neighbours, an unpleasant incident, or a disturbing habit.
